The Signs Of Go-Stop
The Signs Of Go-Stop CDROM

Go-Stop is a magical world where the signs we see every day come to life, helping children to understand the importance of road safety while at the same time, learning to recognise the signs and having fun! This CD-ROM provides a useful tool for anyone wanting to introduce the basic principles of road safety to young children and to make them aware of the type of things they will encounter on their daily journeys.

This CD-ROM has been produced with the assistance of ALBRSO, DFEE and DETR, and features the voice of Ken Barrie (Postman Pat).
"The Institute of Road Safety Officers consider that this resource gives children a very sound basis on which to build their road skills. The resource is fun to use and will be an invaluable tool for teachers and Road Safety Officers alike." IRSO

"Go-Stop is an attractive and enjoyable way of introducing young children to basic road skills."
Carol Sherrif, Director, Child Accident Prevention Trust

"Go-stop is an educational CD-ROM which makes learning and teaching road safety fun"
Patrick Shipp, DFEE

“A brilliant resource for teaching road safety!"
Charles Mambo, Road Safety Officers’ National Films Committee

The Questions and Answer section contains video clips and narration. Questions are based on general knowledge and observation. The questions can be viewed individually or run in sequence.
Find out what happens when the signs go for a balloon ride around the village. The book can be reviewed paragraph by paragraph and has a fun way of turning the pages! The CD-ROM also contains another story within which the child must make decisions about crossing the road.
There are 2 kinds of picture maker. One creates custom scenes that can be printed and coloured by the children, the other lets them colour in pre-made pictures on screen. These are also useful for photocopying and distributing to a class.
In the theatre, a simplified version of the Green Cross Code is performed by the signs. Each stage is a fun and simple song that can be easily learnt and encourages the child to think about their actions at the road side. (Good for Mums and Dads too!) There are other sing along songs also included.
Teaching children road safety is hard if they do not understand the meanings of words. A clear glossary of words and terms provides a useful tool for this situation.
Shapes are covered in the Signs and Symbols game. By matching the shapes with their correct icon, an explanation of the sign appears. This game can be played without a time limit or with 3 difficulty settings.
Traditional favourites like Pairs are included. This version can be played solo, with a timer or by 2 players.
Reminding children to look left and right is an important part of road safety. The Balloon Game helps children learn left and right by steering the balloon through the clouds with the mouse.
The Teachers notes offer advice on lesson structure and tips on preparation. Also included are stand up figures of the characters. These can be printed out and mounted on card and are useful for role-play.
