support
All our CDROMs come with detailed help files and troubleshooting guides. It is best to check these guides before contacting technical support. Unfortunately, SQ can only offer email based technical support. We aim to answer all queries within 24 hours. Sadly, not all PCs are configured in the same way. Certain hardware and even the operating system can prevent software from functioning in the way it should. To help us determine the problem please be sure to include the following information when contacting technical support:
Please note: SQ Cycling and Safer Routes are not suitable for use on Windows XP systems. Have a look at the quick guide below, and if you are still having problems then mail us at the address below.
Why won’t this CDROM run on my machine?

Do you have the correct operating system? Check the packaging. Do you have a firewall or other memory resident programs running? These may prevent the program from running correctly. Check the surface of the CDROM for dirt or scratches. Is the CD-ROM in the drive? The CD-ROM should remain in the drive while the software is in use.

Why can’t I hear any sound?

Is there a soundcard installed on the machine you are using? If so, ensure the WAVE level is not muted or too low. You may see a speaker icon on your taskbar. It’s usually to the bottom right. From here you can adjust the playback levels of your soundcard.

Is your soundcard connected to speakers? Check that the speakers are correctly plugged into the correct output from the soundcard and that they are powered up. Some speakers will not require additional power while others will require batteries or mains power.

Why is the software running slowly?

Does your system meet the minimum requirements? Most of our software will run on a slower machine but the lowest recommended machine is a Pentium 266 with 8 megs of RAM. More RAM memory will provide better performance.

Are you running any other programs at the same time? Close down any other programs running to free more memory space. If you are using a system you are not familiar with do not disable programs without advice. If you disable virus scanning software, be sure to enable it after your session.

Some of our titles use high quality pictures and video stored on the CD-ROM. A fast CD-ROM drive gives better performance when these items are needed.

Why do the colours look strange?

Is your display set to its highest colour output? Our titles look best when used in 16, 24 or 32 bit colour mode. You can adjust these settings by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties and then settings. Please make sure that your video card is capable of displaying correctly at these settings before adjusting them.

Why does the text look strange?

Does your system contain the correct font? Most of our titles use the font ‘Arial’ which is present on most systems. If this font is not on your system a replacement is chosen from your existing ones. The substitute font could affect the appearance of the text and cause problems when viewing, however this would be unlikely.

Are you using ‘Large Fonts’? On some systems it is possible to view text in ‘large font’ mode. This makes text easier to read on laptops and smaller screens. To determine what mode your display is in and to alter the setting do the following:

a) Right click on the desktop and select properties.
b) Go to the settings tab and select advanced.
c) Go to the general tab and you should see an option for displaying fonts.
d) Select ‘small fonts’, 96 dpi.

Why won’t some things print?
Our titles rely on external programs for printing, primarily a web browser. You may also need some software capable of printing RTF files. The basic, text-editing program that comes with Windows™ should be sufficient. If you are having problems Solutionquest can inform you of free software, available from the Internet, that should do the job. Please email us.

A word on Networking
None of our titles so far have been designed for networking. They have not been tested on a network and there is no technical support available for running them in this manner. Users have reported that some of our titles run okay in this way. If you want to run our software on a network you must contact our sales department for a license.
